About
![]() "A joyful heart is good medicine" - Proverbs 17:22 I am Rebekah. Joy is my middle name-& I try to live up to it. But the real joy in my heart comes from my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Things about me you ought to know: I feel called to mission. In Japan, specifically. I have a love for the peoples of East Asia. I am currently taking my first steps towards Japan. See "About" for more detail. |
sitting on my deck from dusk to dark talking of the future & what’s to come- sure we can be scared but don’t let that fear rule your life (or so goes my motivational speech of the day) laughing together as I punch off a piece of the deck because it’s your future boyfriend’s head it gets darker & I try to fight back the night because I know when it comes you eventually must go continuing to talk until the lights of the day are gone & all I can see is an outline of your face watching you walk down gravel dirt road & wishing you’d come back to give me just one more hug. so I’m off? I’m off.

Except for one last bit that needs to register, it looks as though I’m at 100% with my funds! Thanks to all of you who have donated and prayed. It’s crazy to think that it’s only a week before I head off to Pre-field Training! Things are looking pretty busy this week. I’ve been told that summer interns like myself are strongly encouraged not to bring their laptops so they can focus on the field. So unfortunately it’s pretty unlikely that I will be able to regularly update this blog- if at all. But I plan to take lots of pictures & whatnot so look forward to that when I return! Please continue to pray that travel plans & packing would go smoothly. Thank you so much!

So apparently our plane tickets ended up being more expensive than the budgeted estimate & I still have about $250 to raise. If you haven’t donated yet please do so! Now is the time. Click here for my letter & instructions for sending in. For those of you who are already supporting me- thank you so much! There’s no way I could’ve done this without you!

So for those of you who are wondering, the departure date for the summer internship to Chiba, Japan is May 28th. On the 28th I’ll travel to a conference center in Ridge Haven for PFT (pre-field training). & then- I believe- we officially depart for Japan on the 31st. I should be returning home around August 1st. This is all SO exciting, but I have a bunch of paperwork & stuff to fill out, so better focus on that first!

Originally, I was going to be staying from Jan-June (2013), the amount of money I had to raise for that amount of time was around $11,600. Obviously, since I am currently still in America & it’s now April- that didn’t quite work out as hoped. You see, in order to go, I am required to raise 100% of my funds. However, things are really starting to look up. With the amount of time not spent in Japan, the amount of funds I must raise also goes down. I have quite a bit saved up which I was planning to contribute, & my parents were planning on donating a bit too. All of which- when added with the amount I’ve already raised- amounts to approx. $6,225. Having recently emailed my intern coach, I found that for about 2 months (June-July), I’d only have to raise about $6,900. That only puts me a few hundred away from my goal! But there is a catch. They apparently usually only take college students for this particular summer internship. However, said she’d ask to see if they’d make an exception for me. Ironically, I’ve taken this past year off (after graduating high school) for the purpose of applying to missions. If they do give me the green light for this summer internship, then I will hopefully be posting about it here on my blog to update everyone! I’ll let you know what happens!

I actually know this family- they go to my church. You can find their blog at colemansinlove.blogspot.com They’re really awesome! Well here I am… it’s March. My goal has been reset to April-June. I now have to raise approximately $7,800 total. Over the past few weeks I was praying & reconsidering whether or not this trip is what God had for me. Although I know it won’t be easy, I going to continue perusing this trip in faith. Please pray that God will give me the courage, faith & funds necessary. Also I might be speaking at a church’s youth group soon- so please pray that I be prepared for that!
